Tips to be productive as a programmer
Following are the tips that I'm following
1. Clean workspace
- Make your workspace clean and simple as much as possible
- Remove all unwanted stuffs from the workspace
- Following is my workspace at office
I'm keeping
- My MacBook
- Always keeping Notebook with Pen
- Always having water bottle (Drinking water puts me in happy mode in all the time)
- Using earphone (Music + Coding, Marriage made in heaven :))
- Stick some cheatsheets on the wall (I'm having Vim, Docker, Puppet, Git and Git-Flow cheatsheets)
- Next the most important tip....... :)
2. Block Facebook
- Facebook is a time killer for me. So I have blocked it
- Add following content to
/etc/hosts
file, It will block facebook
127.0.0.1 facebook.com
127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com
- Then flush
dscache
, in order to affect the changes that you have made to hosts file
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
- I'm using twitter most of the time, twitter is not a time killer for me :)
3. Try to do a sport
As a programmer, sport
- Helps to keep my body healthy and fit
- Trains me, how to work under pressure
- Trains me, how to deal with changes
- etc...
- I'm playing Field Hockey once a week
4. Now its time to happy coding :)
5. Tip from Hockey

Agreed. My workspace is almost the same as you, but a cup of coffee instead of water and mac with HHKB keyboard makes coding more productively.

It's amazing how quickly you're work space can get cluttered if you don't put energy into keeping it simple and clean. It's the problem I have. I'll have to try the sports tip to help get in better shape.
