I've been tinkering lately, and I built a @font-face based solution for rendering ASCII textual artwork in its original, intended form without resorting to a text-to-image conversion process. It works pretty well on modern browsers.
The source is up on GitHub, and I have a gallery of some of my work to showcase the app in action.
