I did this and it worked great a few months ago.
I'm coming back because I happened to install the nvidia drivers for my video card for another project and all of the sudden the fonts looked just like they did on Windows. If you're having this problem and have an nvidia GPU install the drivers and it'll make the fonts render much nicer.
