Live editing Light Table themes

In Light Table, open the file of the theme or create a new one (theme files are in ~/.lighttable/css/themes/).

Use the "Style: Change editor theme" command to select the theme.

Click the "connect" tab and connect the editor to LightTable-UI.

Now, in the window where you're editing the theme, use Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Enter to evaluate the file (or Cmd/Ctrl + S to save the file) and you'll see the theme applied to the theme file itself.

The theme file is a CSS file, but maybe you also want to see the theme applied to other types of files (Clojure or HTML files for example) while you're editing it, in this case simply open files of these other types in other tabs (or tab sets). Whenever you evaluate the theme file, it will be instantly applied to all opened files.

You can't do this for the current version (0.5.2) can you?

Yes, you can, but now...

  • the themes have to be stored in LightTable/core/css/themes/
  • they are selected by editing the user.behaviors file (for details, see my message in Light Table's discussion list https://groups.google.com/d/msg/light-table-discussion/Tod9xfHowAA/SeK1yGm6Q4oJ )
  • Instead of the "connect" tab, now there's a Connections option in the View menu (or, alternatively, use the command "Connect: Show connect bar")
