Over the years we have come to have confidence in the Toshiba brand. When we went to replace our microwave, we discovered that ones which had an internal light that stayed on during cooking were rare. That was a deal breaker for us. This one does. What was new for us was the instant heat feature if you needed from 1 to 6 minutes on the high setting. How convenient. Press only one button and on it comes on high for that many minutes. We only wish we could push one other button for less than high heat. As it is, you need to access 4 more presses with menus. As far as heating goes, it does seem to heat evenly, especially as evidenced with popcorn. None seem scorched and few kernels are left when using the dedicated "popcorn" button. Other options allow the unit to sense when the cycle is ended based on moisture within the cooking space. To accomplish that, there is no ventilating fan so the moisture builds up restricting your view of the food. Is it boiling yet? I dunno, I can't see it. Our last unit had a fan but then it was easy to overcook things.
