A hidden gem: Google Chrome accounts

A lesser know Google Chrome feature is multiple user accounts. You can create and manage them from the the main settings window:

It is (and has been for a while) present in the stable Chrome build. It's just not exposed as much as it deserves. Different Chrome accounts will allow you to maintain different extensions, cookies, browsing history, passwords, sets of bookmarks, open tabs, search engines and whatnot.

Example usage:

  • An account for casual browsing with convenient extensions for web consumption (Readability, Hoverzoom, AdBlock etc).
  • A work account with all the bookmarks and extensions for web development.
  • A personal dev/hacking account for after-work-programming.

Moreover, in combination with Chrome's in-built sync features, you'll be able to sync some of the accounts across different machines.

Chrome's accounts are so easy and useful that it would be a sin not to use them!
