Create your own metric system
Ask your questions first
Code metrics should help you answer a specific question about your code, such as, "What mess should I clean up first?" or "Where should I look for bugs?"
Mix common and custom metrics
Widely used code metrics (such as cyclomatic complexity) are easy to get started with. Project-specific code metrics are more tailored to your situation. Use a mixture of both.
Make relative measurements
Don't use code metrics as absolute targets to reach. Instead, use them as relative measures to find trouble spots in your code.
