Insert Common Technical Symbols on Mac
With Mac's Character Viewer, it's easy to insert common technical symbols into most any document or application.
- from the Keyboard Preferences pane, enable "Show Keyboard & Character viewers in menu bar"
- show the Character Viewer from the menu bar icon

for each symbol below
- search for the Hex code
- select the character
- from the right pane, click add to favorites

– the Command Key symbol⌥ –

– the Option Key symbol⇧ –
⇧
– the Shift Key symbol⎋ –
⎋
– the ESC Key symbol⇪ –
⇪
– the Capslock symbol⏎ –
⏎
– the Return symbol⌫ –
⌫
– the Delete / Backspace symbol
Now, to insert any of these
- open the Character Viewer from the menu bar
- go to your Favorites
- double click the character (it will show up in your current document/application)
