"About Google Chrome" considered harmful

If you ever need to know your version number in Chrome, for bug reporting or feature availability, don't use "About Google Chrome". Opening this dialog will trigger an update.

The easiest way to check is to go to whatsmyuseragent.com and see what is reported there.

Working with WebRTC back when it was moving from Canary/Beta to Stable, the version of Chrome used made a lot of difference to the behaviour seen.

That might count as an unintended result, but harmful, really? Bit of an overstatement?

Heh. I can imagine all the bug reports coming in with the latest version number no matter what.
