Installing Light Table editor on Ubuntu

Download the .tar.gzip file for Light Table on the site : http://www.lighttable.com, and put it in the bin directory of your home place (for example). Unzip it, you'll get .../LightTable/. You can delete the zipped file.

Create a launcher on your desktop :

gnome-desktop-item-edit --create-new ~/<Desktop directory>

Give 'LightTable' for the name and commentary.

For the command browse to the file .../LightTable/LightTable.

Click on the picture and browse the image .../LightTable/core/img/lticon.png.

You have created a launcher, you can drag and drop it on your menu bar. You can get rid of the original launcher.

As I tested on some machines, there can be a problem. I have a double screen. The second time I tried to put the launcher, it didn't appear on rthe desktop.
Well, anyway it's on the Desktop directory. It was just in some place outside of the screen. Just drag and drop from directory to menu. You can drag and drop from directory to desktop. It will assign it a position.
