Hello, I am Eva V. Garcia, a 32-year-old IT specialist based in Cape Town, South Africa.
I grew up in Pretoria, the youngest of three in a family that always had a computer in the living room-my dad was one of the early network engineers at Telkom-so I basically learned to type before I could properly spell. By age 12 I was already re-installing Windows for neighbors and charging them in cooldrink and biltong.
I studied B.Sc. Informatics at the University of Pretoria, then moved straight to Cape Town after graduation because, let's be honest, mountains and ocean beat jacaranda trees when you're writing code all day. My first proper job was at a fintech start-up in the Silicone Cape scene, where I spent four years building payment gateways and learning why gambling and banking regulations have so much in common (spoiler: both hate downtime and love audit trails).
In 2020, I went fully remote and started freelancing as a full-stack developer, with an ever-growing focus on Gaming platforms. That's how I eventually landed my current role as Lead Backend Developer and DevOps engineer for SouthAfricanCasinos.co.za-the country's biggest online casino comparison portal.
Day-to-day I look after everything that keeps the site fast, secure, and compliant: microservices in Node.js and Python, Kubernetes clusters on AWS, real-time bonus feed integrations with 50+ licensed operators, and more security hardening than most banks bother with. I also built our internal Responsible Gambling dashboard that tracks player patterns and quietly nudges people toward cooling-off tools when needed – something I’m weirdly proud of in an industry that doesn’t always like talking about the “responsible” part.
Outside of code, I am a trail runner, amateur astrophotographer, and the slightly obsessed owner of two rescue Staffies who think 3 a.m. stand-up calls mean walkies. I still speak Afrikaans when I'm angry at a buggy deployment and switch to Xhosa when I'm bargaining for snoek at the harbor.
