Curious. What's the advantage to installing the Command Line Tools outside of Xcode?

I don't think there is. You just don't have to have Xcode installed. I like Xcode however because it let me develop iPad apps :)

the
"sudo xcode-select --reset"
command didn't work for me. I don't know what i'm doing wrong.
i already had xcode 5.1.1 installed

@spencer__d what version of OS X and XCode are you using?

@liquid figured out how to uninstall xcode, at least it seems successful. "sudo rm -rf /Applications/Xcode.app/" I'm using mavericks and xcode 5.1.1. I finding out if that solved the problem yet.
