Favicon notes

Nice article from Jon Hicks on the details of making fav icons for various devices/uses.
More specifics about sizes.

Notes:
- ICO format supports multiple sizes, of which Windows uses 16x16 and 32x32 the most
- PNG supports alpha transparency, worth creating too

"Precomposed" in the file name avoids the Apple gloss/dropshadow:
apple-touch-icon-72x72-precomposed.png => Icon won't have "gloss" in iOS
apple-touch-icon-72x72.png => Icon will have gloss

THE TWO FILES WE SHOULD ALWAYS MAKE:
favicon.ico => with 16, 32, 48 sizes embedded, use IconBuilder or IcoMaker
apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png => 144x144 if it's OK to auto resize

EXTRA:
If auto-resizing the icon makes it ugly, and for more optimizing, these can be provided as well:
apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png => 57x57 non-retina iphone/touch, android 2.1+
apple-touch-icon-72x72-precomposed.png => 1st/2nd Gen iPad
apple-touch-icon-114x114-precomposed.png => Retina iPhone
apple-touch-icon-144x144-precomposed.png => Retina iPad
