How to Write a Descriptive Essay

When someone write my essay, should be creative, use rich vocabulary, and think about appealing to your reader’s senses. A descriptive essay is enhanced by colorful and interesting detailed, imagery, metaphors, and language. They are not usually action-packed, instead typically focusing intensively on one object, experience, event, memory, person, or place.

Writing a descriptive essay is a step by step process:

Make sure you pick a topic that is stimulating and thought-provoking and that has interesting aspects and qualities to explore. Compare several topics and brainstorm to see which one works best for you and sparks your imagination the most. Make lists of things you associate with the topics and draft potential essays. Then try to clear your mind and unwind, so you can really focus thoroughly on your chosen subject.

Decide on the most logical and effective order for your essay, outlining the basics of each paragraph and what you want to convey. Begin the essay on a broader, more general level, and gradually work your way towards specifics. Think about how the story will unfold for the reader.

Provide detailed descriptions of places and characters, encompassing the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. It’s also a good idea to include descriptions of colors, shapes, lighting, texture, and other such elements. You should aim to portray feelings and experiences to the reader, instead of directly expressing them. For example, instead of saying you felt sad; try to show the reader through your actions that you felt sad.

In order to reach your conclusion, you should reread your introduction and the body of your essay and imagine you are reading the essay for the first time. Think about why you chose this subject, what you have learned through your writing that you didn’t originally know, and why it was important for you to explore the things you did. You can then write your conclusion using these answers for inspiration, and tie things together to create an overall summary and ending.

Revise and reorganize your essay, asking yourself if you have successfully painted a complete picture for the reader, used enough detail, arranged the essay in a logical way that naturally unfolds for the reader, used imaginative and creative vocabulary, and finally, drawn a conclusion and portrayed the significance of the subject to the writer.
